Dr. Ed Walker is a native of Newport News, VA. He received the BA from the College of William and Mary in 1980, the Master of Divinity from Duke University in 1984, and the Doctor of Ministry from Union Presbyterian Seminary in 2002. Pastor Ed and his wife Sharon, who is an occupational therapist working with Fairfax County Schools, have two adult children – Catie, a nurse in Richmond, and Harley, who works as a landscape designer in Annapolis. Pastor Ed enjoys all kinds of water sports: sailing and fishing to name a couple. He and Sharon enjoy their free time at their home on the Chesapeake Bay where they have an oyster garden.
Teer Hardy was born and raised in Maryland. Teer has a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from West Virginia Wesleyan College and Masters of Theology from Wesley Theological Seminary. He will be returning to Wesley in the fall to complete a Masters of Divinity. Teer is interested in meeting God where were the divine intersects with our everyday life, whether that is in a coffee shop, pub, or park trail. Married to his high school sweetheart (although they didn’t meet until college), Teer and his wife Allison are the proud parents of a rambunctious three year old, Camden. If you were wondering, yes, Camden is named after a baseball stadium. Teer also is the co-founder and host of the Crackers & Grape Juice podcast. Jeff Goodman is a graduate of Wesley Theological Seminary, and comes to us after twelve years as Contemporary Worship leader at Dranesville United Methodist Church, where he led the band “Upon This Rock.” Jeff is our quarter-time associate responsible for contemporary worship. Jeff is married to Pam, and has a daughter and two grandsons.
Mac McKenney has been involved in nearly every aspect of youth ministry since 2002 when he and Hannah Godfrey participated in Mount Olivet’s first middle school short-term mission project. Mac was appointed to Mount Olivet as a local pastor in June 2016, and is completing work on a Master of Divinity at Wesley Theological Seminary. He and his wife, Linda, have two adult children, Reid and Nora.
Hannah Godfrey has attended Mount Olivet for her entire life. She has been involved in every mission play over the past twelve years, and served as interim youth director while she was working on a B.A. in psychology at Marymount University. She and Mac McKenney have served as youth directors for the past three years. Hannah is currently pursuing a Master of Divinity at Wesley Theological Seminary.
Linnea arrived at Mount Olivet in July of 2012. She holds a Masters in Family Ministry and as well a Masters of Divinity. She is responsible for all things children including: children’s choirs, children’s Sunday school, and VBS. She has a 7 year old daughter, Marta. When she is not working she enjoys anything outside including hiking, camping, and finding the best playgrounds in the area.
Connie has been a member of Mount Olivet for seven years and has been a volunteer for four. Her interests include: painting, calligraphy and spending as much time as possible with her five grandchildren.
Tina serves as an Office Manager maintaining the church calendar, preparing the worship bulletins and prayer concerns, and maintaining the membership records. Tina has worked in the Church office and been a member of Mount Olivet for 10 years. When not at the church, she enjoys riding her motorcycle, gardening and playing with her two small dogs.
Ellen serves as Mount Olivet’s Web and Media Specialist. She is from Athens, Georgia and has only recently moved to the Washington D.C. area with her husband Jarrod. She works with print media, graphic design, and website and social media management at Mount Olivet. She enjoys spending time with her dog, Annie, playing music, and exploring new places.
Susan began teaching at Mount Olivet Preschool (MOPS) in 2000 and became the preschool director in 2006. Susan obtained her B.A. in Sociology from Washington College in 1982, adding education courses later. Originally from Pennsylvania, Susan and her husband Darby Nye have lived in Arlington for over 20 years. Susan and Darby are parents to Henry and Ellen, both MOPS graduates, and Darby’s sons Jeffrey and David. Susan enjoys volunteer work in the Arlington schools, taking on volunteer roles in the activities her children are involved in, and time spent with family and friends (including, Teddy the dog).
Dr. Shaner is an ecumenical church musician, having served a wide variety of denominations in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Ohio and Northern Virginia. He is an honors graduate of Shenandoah University Conservatory and a graduate of Wittenberg University, where he graduated with a Master’s degree in Sacred Music and organ performance. He holds the Doctor of Sacred Music degree from Graduate Theological Foundation with post-graduate studies at the University of Illinois.
Marilyn Traynham serves as the Church Administrator of Mount Olivet. She is trained as a CPA and is the staff representative to the Finance Committee, Trustees, Stewardship and the Mount Olivet Community Assistance ministry. She has served in a variety of positions at both the District and Conference level ministries. When not at church, she enjoys walking, spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and the Traynham pets.
