This year food insecurity has become greater. In addition to life-threatening illness, the pandemic has caused widespread financial hardship. Food pantries nationwide are struggling to keep up with sharp jumps in demand.
Locally, the Arlington Food Assistance Center has reported a 40% increase in families seeking food. Many Arlingtonians have pitched in to help, and this year’s CROP Walk will be especially timely.
To adapt to the times, we will have a Virtual Arlington CROP Hunger Walk. Here’s what this means. Walkers will be signing up online and walking individually or as families in their own designated routes on Saturday, October 17. Unfortunately, there will be no big send-off gathering as we’ve had in the past.
Also, fundraising will be done exclusively online and we encourage walkers to use social media (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram) as possible to highlight the issue of food insecurity in their community.
We will be sharing more information in the upcoming weeks to explain more. So, save the date, start planning your route and break-in your walking shoes for this year’s CROP Walk!
